Headaches

Headaches that start in the neck deserve a closer look

Headaches and migraines can be exhausting, especially when they keep returning and the cause is not clear. For some people, the neck plays a major role. Stiffness, joint restriction, muscle tension, posture and poor movement control in the upper cervical spine can all contribute to head pain.
GB Physiotherapy provides assessment and treatment for neck-related headaches, also known as cervicogenic headaches, from the Joondalup clinic.

Headaches

Could your headache be coming from your neck?

A neck-related headache may feel like pain at the base of the skull, behind the eye, through the temples, across the forehead or around one side of the head. Some people also experience neck stiffness, shoulder tension, nausea, light sensitivity or migraine-like symptoms.

Your neck may be involved if your headaches are linked to:

  • Neck stiffness or reduced movement
  • Pain that starts around the upper neck or base of the skull
  • Symptoms triggered by posture, desk work or prolonged sitting
  • Headaches that worsen with certain neck movements
  • Recurring headaches that respond only temporarily to rest, massage or medication
  • A history of whiplash, sport injury, poor posture or neck strain

Approach

A targeted approach to headache treatment

Glen Bailey has a strong clinical focus on cervicogenic headaches and neck-related migraine symptoms. Treatment begins with a careful assessment of the upper neck, including the C0 to C3 region, muscle tone, joint mobility, posture and movement patterns.
Where neck restriction is identified, treatment may include gentle manual therapy, soft tissue techniques, mobility work, stretching, strengthening and self-management strategies. The aim is to reduce symptoms, improve neck function and give you practical ways to manage your headaches long term.

Treatment

No cracking. No guesswork. Clear, gentle treatment.

Treatment for neck-related headaches at GB Physiotherapy is gentle and does not rely on forceful manipulation or cracking. Glen’s approach focuses on precise assessment, comfortable manual therapy and clear education so you understand what is happening and why.
